AstroBliss THC Lemonades, first bottled in 2022, became a familar site for customers across florida as they started appearing on the shelves of their local specialty retailers and convience stores. The clear bottle gave a clear look at the quality ingredients being used. A shake of the bottle agitated the fruit pulp and swirled the organic fruit puree throughout the lemonade.
In 2025 we made the difficult decision to move away from our iconic clear bottles with purple lids. New regulations came into place in florida that required any product containing hemp derived thc to be certified Child Resistant according to (insert bs trade org that over charges for their guide book)'s guidelines. As we were working to come into compliance with these new regulations we picked up a line in the state hemp law that required products be in a container that "Limits exposure to light" which we interpreted to mean no clear containers.
We ended up not having much of a choice inregards to using a clear container any way. In our search for readily avliable solutions that didn't require excessive minimum order quantaties we realized there wasn't currently a clear juice bottle avaliable that works with any child resistant closures. I could write an entire blog about the confusing world that is bottle neck types and dimensions, but to keep it short the DBJ neck on juice bottles doesn't work with the thread on child safe closures. So it was decided, we needed a white bottle that works with a child resistant closure. The next hurdle we faced was finding a child safe bottle, of the right volume and shape, that had a wide mouth openings. Time passed as we recieved sample after sample from bottle companies all over. In the end the only viable off the shelf bottle and closure combination was a 12 ounce white cosmo round PET bottle with a 28-410 child resistant closure. Our original lemonade bottles had a 38mm mouth like you will find on most bottled beverages, so this new 28mm mouth changed the entire look and function of the bottle.
With incoming regulations we made the decision to start production in these not so ideal bottles while continuing to work on a long term solution. So every time I would visit a retailer and hear "It looks like sunscreen or shampoo", I sigh and think "at least it's still on the market". To our surprise, the white bottles had less of an impact on sales than we expected.
One positive of the new bottles is the flavor of our juice and lemonade is better preserved not being exposed to light throughout its time on the shelf. While we understand why our customers miss our iconic clear bottles, we are always working to improve the taste and effectiveness of our products and this change was a win for quality and shelf life.
We are currently working with manufacturers on custom bottles with the typical wider mouth you'd find on a juice bottle, and we are also exploring alternative options like resealable cans to make sure we can bring you the best experience and provide the best value. One this is for sure, our non-carbonated fruit based thc infused beverages aren't going anywhere.
Cheers,
Mike from AstroBliss
